N.L. Kotting & Company puts a new twist on the trend in backyard retreats
N.L. Kotting & Company, specializing in Historic Barn Conversions, will be utilizing this process to create one of a kind private sanctuary at the rear of a residential lot located one mile North of the quaint village of Leland, Michigan. Leland is located on the Leelanau Peninsula in northwestern lower Michigan. Start date for the project is June 15th, 2007
One of the most appealing trends in outdoor residential landscape design right now is the creation of unique retreats and gathering spaces as separate entities from the main residence. These outdoor spaces range from monument type fireplaces to pagodas, elevated tree houses, pergolas and everything in between.
Situated in the depth of old growth trees spanning over 100 years in age, this retreat in Leelanau County will be composed of a turn of the century post & beam structure ethically salvaged from a farmstead in southern Michigan. It will be diagramed, component parts numbered and then dismantled piece by piece for transport to the new site. Once materials are on site, it will be reconstructed and slightly modified, with the help of a licensed architect, to take full advantage of the woodland setting and views of the pristine meadow which unfolds just beyond the great trees. This retreat will be used for social gathering and seasonal dining as well as a private and serene retreat for writing and contemplation.
The village of Leland comes alive in the summer months when summer residents and tourists return to the breathtaking landscapes of the Leelanau peninsula to enjoy not only Leland's deep water harbor and easy access to the Manitou Islands but the wineries, scenery and multitude of summer festivals held throughout the county during the spring, summer and fall seasons.
N.L. Kotting & Company, along with their partner specialist, represent over 70 years of combined experience in the fields of barn relocation and repair, historic preservation and the equine industry.
